"Carpet cleaning near me" - the five questions worth asking

Most carpet cleaning complaints come down to two things: the wrong method for the carpet, and a machine with weak recovery that leaves the pile soaked. Five questions sort the good from the risky before you hand over any money.

1. Which method are you using, and why?

Hot-water extraction is the standard for most household carpets: heated solution is injected into the pile and pulled straight back out under vacuum, taking the soil with it. Low-moisture encapsulation has its place on commercial loop pile and where drying time is critical, but it won't lift years of embedded grit from a family hallway.

A cleaner who can explain which one your carpet needs, and why, is a cleaner who has been trained. One who says "steam clean" to every question hasn't.

2. How long will it take to dry?

A straight answer is 2 to 4 hours touch-dry, 6 to 12 hours fully dry. If someone says "an hour" for a wool carpet in a cold room, they're guessing. If they can't answer at all, that usually means weak vacuum recovery - the carpet gets wet, not clean.

3. Do you pre-treat, and is it included?

  • Traffic lanes and doorways need a pre-spray and dwell time, not a single wet pass
  • Pet urine needs an enzyme treatment that breaks down the source, not a fragrance
  • Old grease and food marks need a different chemistry to mud and grit
  • Pre-treatment should be in the quoted price, not an on-the-day upsell

4. Are you insured, and for how much?

Carpet cleaning happens in your home, around your furniture and electrics. Public liability insurance up to £5M is what we carry, and any professional should give you a figure without hesitating.

5. What happens if a mark comes back?

Some stains wick back up from the underlay as the carpet dries - that's normal and fixable. What matters is whether the cleaner will return. Ask before booking, not after.

Honest cleaners will also tell you what won't come out. Bleach marks, dye transfer from a rug, and old burns are damage rather than soil, and no method removes them.

FAQs

How much is carpet cleaning near me?

Our carpet cleaning starts from £60, with the fixed price set by room count, size and condition. Send photos and the address on WhatsApp and you'll get the exact figure before booking.

Do I need to move the furniture?

Clear small items and breakables; we'll move sofas and chairs and place foam blocks under the feet while it dries.

Will cleaning damage an old carpet?

Not if the method matches the fibre. Wool needs lower heat and gentler chemistry than synthetic - that's part of what we check before starting.
